  1. Day 140

    May 19, 2012 by Nic

A classic for you to enjoy

  2. Day 139 – Listen to the music

    May 19, 2012 by Nic

Many people I know say to me it’s hard to guess the songs without the lyrics or without a specific instrimunt.

That’s the deal with my riffaday project that I want my audience to start listen to the music instead of just getting the vibe. Only then can you truly get the song in my opinion.

The doobie brothers knew that too. Although they played the song in many different versions over the years, the original still sounds best.

  3. Day 139

These kind of running basslines are always my favourite to play.

With the funky guitar above it all comes together so nice.

    Enjoy

  4. Day 138 – The Middle

    May 18, 2012 by Nic

Jimmy eat world were ahead of their time.

Playing poppunk before it got big, playing emo before it got big, … Nice sounding band that unfortunatly never rode on the waves of the big succes. Off course if you’ve been around since 1993 and still going you can’t say they have missed the train but they never flew above the radar much which is a shame.

I hope you enjoyed the solo I did. I wanted to do that solo because the moron who directed the video just blurred it out to enhance the sequence where there’s a few people who jump in the water. And that’s just bullshit. You never blur a solo out… ever!

  5. Day 138

Just a real fun solo to do.

Try to guess where it’s from…

  6. Day 137 – Rainbow in the dark

    May 17, 2012 by Nic

2 years ago Ronnie James Dio died and it was a sad day for metal.

Although he went a bit over the top in his performance and use of his voice for the current generation of kids, everybody knows what he accomplished for rock and metal. If you can say that you’ve been in Black Sabbath and Rainbow you’ve earned more than your metal horns.

In fact he and maybe Gene Simmons are responsible for the heavy use of the metal horns at concerts.

  7. Day 137

    Rip

  8. Day 136 – I want you back

    May 16, 2012 by Nic

    Playback city!

Man I hate it when singers try to playback that they are playing along with their songs. The bass was recorded by Wilton Felder and as far as I can see the jackson (I don’t know which one it is) who’s holding the bass isn’t playing along the track in this performance. He’s probably too busy with not falling down from those break-neck moves.

Here stopt my rant against singers who get the credits for the great tracks that they get offered. Wilton Felder wrote one of the greatest and most recognizable bass lines ever with this “I want you back” It was so great that even Diana Ross and Gladys Knight passed on it not seeing the potential hit in it I presume. Although maybe Diana saw it because she had something to do with the big break for the jacksons.

  9. Day 136

    May 15, 2012 by Nic

One of my favourite basslines ever! Probably one a lot of bass players learn to play eventually.

  10. Day 135 – Summertime Blues

    May 15, 2012 by Nic

My boss said: “no dice son, you gotta work late”.

That says it all. If you don’t get the summertime blues while you’re been told to work late with the sun in your eyes…

I love that period of music. Just everything about it. The suits, the mix between the old and the new, the technology from that moment,…
