  1. Day 130 – Here Comes your man

    May 10, 2012 by Nic

I’m white like Frank Black is.

What Mr. Black does with the pixies is something way beyond song-writing 101. He knows not how to write songs but instead makes catchiness. It’s a shame that the fire went out a decade ago. I know they re-united but to be honest you could tell it’s for the money…

  2. Day 129 – Still D.R.E.

    May 9, 2012 by Nic

The doctor only releases an album every 10 years but when he does it’s full of hits.

Still D.R.E. was just his thing to prove he was back. I think he made his point. The lyrics are just perfect and the g-funk is back in the music!

  3. Day 128 – For your love

    May 8, 2012 by Nic

    Everybody was tripping back then.

So as they were tripping, some guy actually called for bongo’s at the beginning of the song. It adds about nothing to the whole but it’s still in there nonetheless…

  4. Day 127 – Born to be wild

    May 7, 2012 by Nic

Could there ever be an anthem like this that get’s the rock and roll feeling more from the minute it start untill the last?

I seriously doubt it! Just pure magic in the riffage and in the lyrics. Even so that the term heavy metal allegedly came directly from the lyrics of this song.

  5. Day 126 – So What’cha want

    May 6, 2012 by Nic

It came as a shock that MCA died this weekend. So in honour of the fallen beastie boy I made this cover.

The period when they transitioned from harcore/punk to hiphop was their best in my opinion. They took the best out of both worlds and made it into their own thing.

  6. Day 125 – In a gadda da vida

    May 5, 2012 by Nic

Wait a minute! This sounds like rock and/or roll.

Back in the sixties you could reach the top 30 with a 17 minute jam with about 16 minutes of the same riff. Nowadays you reach the top 30 with saying “oh baby” 126 times so nothing really changed there. Except the quality of the riffs. I almost never hear a riff this good in the charts anymore.

  7. Day 124 – Trouble

    May 4, 2012 by Nic

I’m not really into rap but cypress hill has always been in my collection.

10 years back they started to work together with rock musicians and made the more rock driven stoned raiders where this song comes from. They started working together with Christian Olbe Wolters from (then) Fear Factory. That’s probably where the 7-string guitars and 5-string basses entered the mix.

Together with skull & bones, the stoned raiders album is one of my favourites because of that fusion between rock and rap.

  8. Day 123 – Propane nightmares

    May 3, 2012 by Nic

Drum and bass in the likes of front 242 but with a newer sound. That’s how I should describe Pendulum.

The fact that they play their shows with live instruments instead of an apple macbook makes my respect for these guys so much higher. The energy they bring is so up their that they have become my favourite act of the last 5 years. I’m no dancer at all but when I see them playing I just can’t stop moving around.

  9. Day 122 – Blue moon

    May 2, 2012 by Nic

Supra’s version of the classic elvis/dean martin/frank sinatra jazz version of blue moon.

I only supporter for one soccerteam with passion and that’s Anderlecht from Belgium. So in no way I’m a manchester city fan but in all fairness I was rooting for them in the derby on monday. It’s something to do with the underdog position and off course the captain Vincent Kompany who is an ex player from Anderlecht.

I am actually a big fan of the frank sinatra version of the song blue moon. I personally think that Elvis’version is nothing compared to that. So when I heard this punk version of blue moon at the start of the derby I knew I had to cover it for riffaday. I doubted to do the classic version but eventually chose, in honour of city winning over united, to do Supra’s version.

  10. Day 121 – Rehab

    May 1, 2012 by Nic

    Forever 27

I’ve seen amy winehouse just once but I had the luck that it was early on in her career and that she wasn’t as fucked up as she was in her later years. Although the bottle was prominent used between songs the show was pretty normal in comparison of the stories we heard later on when she couldn’t even sing her own lyrics.

She sure lived fast, I hope she enjoyed it as well.
